The 15th of June saw the deployment of 35 life guards on Nerja's beaches, a figure that will increase to a total of 69 during the height of the season. There will be a presence on most of Nerja's beaches from 11.30 in the morning until 8.00 in the evening up until the 15th of September. Four of Nerja's beaches have also been awarded the coveted "Blue Flag" this year including Playa Burriana.

Sheik of Qatar buys Malaga C.F.
The rumours started when the president of the club made an unexpected trip to the Middle East. Then there was the arrival in Malaga port of "Radiant", the Qatari Royal Family's luxury yacht which was apparently too big to dock at Puerto Banus. Now it is confirmed, Sheik Abdullah ben Nasser Al-Thani has bought Malaga Football Club for around 25 million Euros. Malaga narrowly escaped relegation last season with a final day draw with giants Real Madrid and major investment had been sought for some time. The new owner wasted no time in making his presence felt and the club and it's coach have parted company already.
Change of Marina site?
Reports in the local news that the regional government has changed the site of the proposed Torrox-Nerja Marina. Apparently they are now planning to construct it on the Nerja side of the Torrox/Nerja border instead of the other way round!
Busy Easter
We don't know how they got the figures so quickly, but Nerja townhall are reporting a 90% hotel occupancy for the Easter week. The appearance of the sun surely made a difference!
Torrox Golf Course
The reality of the Calaceite Golf Course came a step closer yesterday when the Torrox townhall officially agreed to sell the land to the company developing the course. 460,000m2 of the 517,000m2 planned has been earmarked for transfer to Calaceite Golf, a company formed by the Fuerte Hotel Group, developers Level and the townhall of Torrox itself.
